Espanjalainen joulu/uusivuosi!

Moi!

Seuraavana aamuna avattiin lahjat.

Yleisesti täällä on mennyt tosi hyvin!

Hi! It’s again been a long time since I last wrote. In Spain during the holidays one does a lot of stuff with family/friends all the time and it leaves very little time for the blog. Here Christmas isn’t so important, ‘’Reyes Magos’’ (the three wise men) is the big thing. The host father from my family in Madrid said: ‘’Santa Claus is merely an appetizer whereas Reyes Magos is the main course’’.  This blog update is going to revolve around the Spanish Christmas and New Year because Reyes Magos is not until the day after tomorrow.

Christmas:

Like I said earlier, Christmas isn't the big thing. In our family the situation is on the other hand different, because Santa and the three wise men cooperate. My Christmas wasn’t so great this year. I was alone a big part of the day and the whole thing just wasn't what I had expected. The Christmas was super different compared to Finland because In Finland we get together with the family and hand out presents. Gladly this was just one Christmas among many, the next one will be very traditional Finnish I can already tell!

The next morning we opened the gifts (The night before I had my alarm at 4.00 because one has to hide the gifts secretly under the tree). To Dani I bought a Carnivorous plant that he had wished for and a toy set, to Isaac a 25e gift card to play store and to Sagri a spapackthingy. In return I got a really warm coat, a shirt and a little miniature house building kit.

New Year’s Eve:

My New Year’s Eve was very nice. First we went to the city with friends and later to eat at Paula’s house with her family. Here it’s not a tradition to shoot fireworks during new year like in Finland but instead one eats 12 grapes. The last 12 seconds of the year are spent so that every second one has to eats one grape. I liked the New Year here a lot and it compensated for the Christmas that on my part didn’t go super well. It’s nice to spend time with the Spanish people because they’re so open and energetic! The rest of the evening/morning we talked (yes, in Spanish) and we fell asleep at around five o’clock.

In general things have gone very well here! Recently I’ve been feeling a bit more under the weather than usually, probably because the big events like Christmas and New Year’s Eve are usually spent with your own family.  I must say that Explorius (my exchange company) has pretty well predicted my state of minds; they said to me that in around 3-4months I will most likely go through a mood drop and they were quite right. However I think one must enjoy the time here because at the end of the day it’s going to go by super-fast.
