Granada!

Moi!

Aino (suomalainen) johon tutustuin bussimatkalla Granadaan.

Hey! Last weekend we were in Granada with our exchange student group! We left with the exchangestudents of Valencia with the buss around 12.00 at night. The buss ride went well except I couldn’t really sleep because we stopped so often and there were new people coming in all the time. Around three/four o’clock my Finnish, Danish and Norwegian exchange student friends came and I knew everybody except Aino and Kata. Aino sat next to me and we talked and at some point we fell asleep.

The next time I woke up we were in Granada and the buss was almost at Granada’s buss station. When we stepped out, it was as cold as in Finland. We took our things and started walking towards the hotel but after walking approximately 2min we decided that it was a better option to take the taxi. Then we returned to the buss station and there David realized that he had forgotten his bag to the buss. We waited for him to find the bag and thankfully at the end he found it. Then we ordered 3 taxis and that took us to the hotel. We met all the other exchange students at the hotel and we also met our guide, Ingma. Ingma is a person that is very hard to describe but this is pretty much how I looked when I saw her:

Well, we gave Ingma the nickname Ingman (Ingman is a Finnish milk product company, don’t ask) and after that we went to eat breakfast to a nearby café. Later we went to see the center of Granada. In the evening we got back to the hotel, had supper and went to sleep. We wanted to go to the city before going to bed but Ingman came to our table while we were eating and said ‘’Remember kids that I have access to the security cameras of this hotel and you don’t have my permission to exit the building’’, everyone looked at her like:

I slept in the same room with my Norwegian friend Jon, my Czech friend David (The one who lost his bag in the morning) and Arthur from Germany.

The next day we went to La Alhambra, which is an Islam based palace in Granada. It was really nice and after seeing that we went to Sierra Nevada. It was like a skiing place on top of a mountain and the local village was pretty big. Also the prices were quite high, we could all agree that the prices were like back home.

In the evening we went to a restaurant and we sat next to a man who followed our conversations with interest. At some point he asked were we’re from and we said ‘’Finland, Norway, Denmark, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Then he joined the table. While I was talking with him I thought that he seemed somehow familiar and I felt like I had seen him before. When he went to pay we all gathered to a circle and Jazmin said that ‘’isn’t he the actor from ‘’The Pianist’’ and then I realized that that was were I knew him from!  We watched ‘’The pianist’’ with my old social studies/history teacher Velimatti in 8-grade. When he returned to the table I asked if he knew something about the film industry and he said kind of in a shy manner ‘’I’m familiar with it’’ and after that I directly asked if he was the main character from ‘’The pianist’’ and he smiled and said yes. Just to make sure I checked a couple of things from Wikipedia and asked them from him and he answered everything correctly. To think that I was in the same table with an Oscar winner! And here is the selfie that I of course had to take:
One of the best things with this exchange year besides learning a new language and a new culture has been the fact that here I’ve had the opportunity to meet new people from the Nordic countries and create a sort of ‘’Nordic network’’. Most of the exchange students here (at least the ones through Explorius) come from the Nordic countries, the majority is from Finland and Norway. It’s a really amazing thing that already at this age you become part of the Nordic community. I for one can’t wait for the next trip!
